Sách Huấn Ca, chương 3, đoạn từ câu (12) tới câu (15).

..."Con ơi, hãy săn sóc cha con, khi người đến tuổi già; bao lâu người còn sống, chớ làm người buồn tủi. Người có lú lẫn, con cũng phải cảm thông, chớ cậy mình sung sức mà khinh dể người. Vì lòng hiếu nghĩa đối với cha sẽ không bị quên lãng, và sẽ đền bù tội lỗi cho con. Thiên Chúa sẽ nhớ đến con, ngày con gặp khốn khó, và các tội con sẽ biến tan như sương muối biến tan lúc đẹp trời."

Ecclesiasticus / Sirach 3,12-15

..."My child, support your father in his old age, do not grieve him during his life. Even if his mind should fail, show him sympathy, do not despise him in your health and strength; for kindness to a father will not be forgotten but will serve as reparation for your sins. On your own day of ordeal God will remember you: like frost in sunshine, your sins willmelt away."

..."Mon fils, viens en aide à ton père dans sa vieillesse, ne lui fais pas de peine pendant sa vie. Même si son esprit faiblit, sois indulgent, ne le méprise pas, toi qui es en pleine force. Car une charité faite à un père ne sera pas oubliée, et, pour tes péchés, elle te vaudra réparation. Au jour de ton épreuve Dieu se souviendra de toi, comme glace au soleil, s'évanouiront tes péchés."
